Across cultures, one of the most common ways of saying "I love you" is by asking "Have you eaten?"
This is especially true in our family where there is a running joke that if you spend any time with us, you will end up well fed. So when it comes to serving our community and sharing good in the world, we often do so through food. Sometimes it's packing seeds to send to schools through Slow Food, sometimes it's teaching cooking classes for low income families through Cooking Matters, and sometimes we host dinners for families experiencing temporary homelessness.
Four times a year, Unity Spiritual Center of Denver partners with a nonprofit organization Family Promise to host four families for a week at a time. During the day, the families go to work or to the Family Promise day site, where they receive support in finding jobs and affordable housing. In the evening, they return to Unity where volunteers prepare and serve dinner and try to offer a cozy environment.
Coming from Italian heritage, our family at Healthy Harvest takes great joy serving as dinner hosts. What could be more fulfilling than gathering around the table with good food and heartfelt hospitality?
It should come as no surprise that our favorite meal to prepare is pasta. For tonight's dinner we are making penne with a homemade red sauce full of veggies, along with a spinach salad dressed in our Red Wine Vinaigrette and artisan bread. And of course, no meal would be complete without our olives and extra virgin olive oil.
We can only imagine the challenge of trying to provide for one's children and feel any sense of comfort and stability while searching for a home, so we do our best to serve a delicious meal prepared with love to ease some of life's daily stresses.
We share this blog with you to let you know that doing good is more than just a marketing catchphrase. As a four-person family business, it is our life's mission - our daily compass.
Every time you make a purchase, you are supporting the values of that company. We certainly appreciate you supporting us so we can grow our platform to serve others with nourishing foods.
